Welcome to Apricot Ginger!
I’m Heather and I’m a self employed consultant, freelance writer, wife to M and mother of 2 gorgeous kids. I also have a cute Cockapoo, Murdo, and 3 cats, Cooper, Charlie and Maisie (who are not overly fond of aforementioned pooch)!
Apricot Ginger is here for parents who want to start their own successful freelance or home business, while managing small budgets, family life and juggling multiple priorities.
I started this blog, partly because I love to write, but mainly because, since I started my own consultancy 7 years ago, I’ve accumulated quite a bit of information about running your own business on a limited budget.
If you’re looking to make the transition from work to self employment, here you’ll find tips, advice and ideas – as well as the all important ‘what not to do’ (trust me, I’ve done them!)
I hope that this blog inspires you to make the first steps into self-employment or freelancing – even if you have a family and a limited budget – or that it gives you the encouragement to take the steps to move your new home business to the next level.
I also blog a bit about home improvement projects, food, travel and family life in general, but all from the perspective of being self-employed and the need to juggle kids, clients – oh, and my own life too.

Why Apricot Ginger?
Apricot Ginger is a wee nod to me and my dog Murdo – as we’re both natural redheads (she says, flicking her hair imagining I look like a 1940’s film star but in reality probably looking as though I have a nervous twitch!).
I decided on the name after lots of research into things like ‘Two Redheads’ and ‘Ginger Times Two’ – you would be amazed at the kind of sites that research flings back at you. Let’s just say my eyes have been opened to a whole new world!! And not in a good way.
Anyhoo, apricot is how Murdo’s coat is described in the dog world, whereas I’m plain old ‘ginger’ hence, Apricot Ginger (not to mention it sounds like an interesting new jam flavour combo – or maybe that’s just me!)
So, here you’ll find my tips for self employed parents – or parents who freelance – as well as some general musings, and other bits and pieces. I really hope you enjoy the blog.
